Terms and refunds

GlyphChecker is run by an individual developer in Japan. These terms are deliberately short. If something here is unclear, email hello@glyphchecker.com and ask — you will get a real answer from the person who wrote the software.

What the service does

GlyphChecker loads a web page in two prepared environments — one with Japanese fonts installed and one without — and reports how the Japanese text renders in each. A single page scan is free. A full site scan costs $49 and covers up to 30 Japanese pages of one domain, found from your sitemap or by following internal links.

A full site scan includes one re-run of the same domain, available for 30 days after purchase, so you can confirm a fix without paying again. It scans the same domain you verified and does not need verifying a second time. Single page scans are free and unlimited, so a small fix can be re-checked at any time.

The analysis is automated. It is a measurement of what our browsers observed at one moment, not an audit, and not a guarantee that we found every problem or that a site with a perfect score is free of typographic faults. Fixing what we report is not promised to produce any particular business outcome.

Scanning someone else's site

When you buy a full site scan you confirm that you own the domain, or are authorised by its owner to have it scanned. We verify that claim before any crawl starts, by asking you to place a meta tag on the site or a TXT record in its DNS. If you cannot prove control of a domain, we will not scan it, and you may have a refund.

Free single-page scans work differently and deliberately: they fetch one publicly reachable page, the way any visitor's browser would. You may scan any public page with them, including one you do not own.

How the scanner behaves

The scanner identifies itself as GlyphChecker in its user-agent, reads and obeys robots.txt, and pauses between requests. Pages that robots.txt disallows are skipped and counted in the report rather than silently omitted. It renders pages the way a browser does; it does not attempt to log in, submit forms, or reach anything a visitor could not.

Refunds

Before a scan starts, a full refund for any reason, no questions. Email hello@glyphchecker.com with the address of your scan page.

After a scan has run: if it failed technically — the crawl found no pages, the site blocked us, the report is empty or wrong — email and you will be refunded. If it worked and you simply did not like the findings, that is a report you received, and refunds are at our discretion. In practice, ask.

Result links are public to whoever has them

Scan results live at long, unguessable addresses. They are not password-protected: anyone you send the link to can open it, and so could anyone who found it. Treat a result URL as shareable, because it is. Tell us if you want one deleted.

What we store

• The URLs you scan, the results, and screenshots of the scanned pages. Free scan results are reused for 24 hours if the same URL is scanned again.
• For purchases: your email address, the Stripe checkout reference, and the domain you verified. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach our servers.
• Waitlist sign-ups: the email address you typed and which plan it was for.
• A daily-rotating hash of IP address and browser string, to count returning visitors. No tracking cookies, no analytics scripts, no advertising networks.

We do not sell any of this or pass it to anyone beyond the services that run the product (Stripe for payments, an email provider for notifications, a hosting provider). Ask us to delete your data and we will.

Availability

There is no uptime guarantee. This is one server run by one person. Scans are queued and can take longer at busy times; a full site scan of 30 pages usually takes under an hour.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, our liability for anything arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.

Changes and governing law

These terms may change; the date at the top says when they last did. A change never applies retroactively to a scan you already bought. Japanese law governs, and the Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance.
